Carole Horst Sasha Calle, Mamoudou Athie and Jeffrey Donovan join Dane DeHaan in crime thriller “Wardriver,” directed by Rebecca Thomas and written by Daniel. The film is produced by Tim and Trevor White’s Star Thrower Entertainment alongside David M. Wulf, Daniel Casey, DeHaan and Highland Film Group, which is repping international at TIFF.

Katcy Stephan It’s been four years since The Avenue first launched, and the indie distributor just scored its first top 10 film with William Eubank’s “Land of Bad.” The action flick starring Liam Hemsworth, Russell Crowe, Luke Hemsworth, Ricky Whittle and Milo Ventimiglia opened on Feb. 16, had the fourth-highest per screen average over the holiday weekend and was the only independent film in the top 10. While indie films in awards contention can often make a modest box office dent, it’s unusual for an action film like “Land of Bad” to reach such heights: the actioner’s four-day total on opening weekend was $2.1 million from 1,057 screens.

EXCLUSIVE: Ahead of its world premiere at SXSW, the Nicolas Cage thriller Arcadian has been acquired by RLJE Films, in a deal for North America, UK, Australia and Ireland rights. Also starring Jaeden Martell (It), Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space), and Sadie Soverall (Saltburn), the film will be released in theaters on April 12, with a debut on Shudder and AMC+ to follow later in the year.

Anna Marie de la Fuente High-concept horror film “Rosario” is getting a stellar cast. David Dastmalchian (“Oppenheimer“), José Zúñiga (“Twilight”), Diana Lein (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Paul Ben-Victor (“The Irishman”) and Emilia Faucher (“CODA”) will join rising star Emeraude Toubia (“Shadowhunters”) in the pic. Penned by Alan Trezza (“We Summon the Darkness”), the story, set in New York, revolves around Rosario (Toubia), a successful Wall Street stockbroker who is trapped in her estranged grandmother Griselda’s apartment during a snowstorm.

Brent Lang Executive Editor RLJE announced today it has acquired North American rights to “Muzzle,” an action thriller starring Aaron Eckhart,from Highland Film Group. Directed by John Stalberg Jr. (“Crypto”) and based on a script by Carlyle Eubank (“The Signal”) from a story byEubank and Stalberg Jr., the film is set to debut in theaters and will be made available on all rental platforms on Sept.

EXCLUSIVE: After hitting 300 North American theaters via The Avenue last fall, the action thriller The System, starring Tyrese Gibson, Terrence Howard, Jeremy Piven and Lil Yachty, has been set to premiere on Starz on July 1st. The film will have its linear premiere there at 12:00 p.m. ET on July 6th, also airing that night at 11:30 p.m. ET.

Emma Roberts is set to star alongside Laurence Fishburne in a new sci-fi thriller called The Astronaut.The production is set to begin later this year in Ireland and will be produced by Brad Fuller, known for A Quiet Place and The Purge, according to Deadline. The plot is based around Emma’s character, astronaut Sam Walker, who is found miraculously alive after returning from her first space mission.Her capsule was discovered punctured and floating off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

EXCLUSIVE: Jaeden Martell (It), Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space) and Sadie Soverall (Fate: The Winx Saga) have signed on to star alongside Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage in the survival action-thriller Sand and Stones from Highland Film Group, which will enter production in Dublin, Ireland next week.

EXCLUSIVE: AMC Networks’ business unit RLJE Films and its genre streaming service Shudder have acquired North American rights to the Neil Marshall-directed horror film The Lair from Highland Film Group, with the latter also picking up the rights for UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. RLJE Films will release the pic in theaters and on digital and VOD on October 28, with Shudder bringing it to streaming early next year.

Jimenez (“Machete Kills”), Héctor Jiménez (“Nacho Libre”), Raúl Méndez (“Narcos”), Edgar Flores (“Sin Nombre”), Venus Ariel (“DMZ”) and Carlos Solórzano (“Flamin’ Hot”).Written by Boise Esquerra, the film will wrap principal photography at the end of January on location in the Dominican Republic.Developed by Mucho Mas Media and Silk Mass, “The Black Demon” is co-financed by Highland Film Group (HFG), which is representing worldwide rights to the film.

In 2010, sales agent Arianne Fraser learned that a rival had scooped up foreign rights to sell Paranormal Xperience 3D, a Spanish horror pic about five medical students investigating an abandoned mining town in search of paranormal evidence. It was the perfect title for Fraser to bring to that year’s Cannes film market.
