Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong was joined on stage by Hole icon Courtney Love as his side-project covers band The Coverups performed an intimate show of rock classics in London tonight (Tuesday February 27).Following the announcement of the two surprise gigs in the capital last week, the band – famed for their impromptu gigs with renditions of rock and punk staples – took to the stage at The Garage in Islington before a crowd that included Sex Pistols‘ Glen Matlock as well as Blondie‘s Clem Burke and comedy legend Frank Skinner.“How are you guys doing?” said Armstrong, arriving on stage. “We’re The Coverups, we play cover songs.

Sex Pistols guitarist Glen Matlock caught up with NME backstage at Glastonbury 2023 to tell us about returning to the festival to play with Blondie and his successful solo career.After being announced last year to appear on Blondie’s new album – the follow-up to 2017’s ‘Pollinator‘ – the punk veteran has also been playing with the art-pop icons for recent world tour commitments, performing to a huge Pyramid Stage on the closing day of Glastonbury on Sunday (June 24).Before he took to the stage, NME asked the bass legend if he could recall the first time he met the band.“I can’t remember exactly because I was probably really drunk and out of it, but I think I met them first when I did a for-one-night-only gig with Sid Vicious at the Electric Ballroom in ‘78 or ‘79,” he replied. “Blondie turned up as a band, and I think that’s when I met Clem [Burke] and Debbie [Harry] for the first time.“What I thought was quite sweet about them was that when bands go on tour and have a night off, everyone tends to filter off somewhere – but they always seemed to be out and about as a band.

Glastonbury are currently looking to hire chefs and catering assistants to work on-site at this year’s festival.Successful applicants will be catering for the festival’s crew and will be needed from May 26 – July 14, keeping crew well-fed as they set up and dismantle the site. Chefs will be expected to cater for large groups of people and prepare food suitable for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets.Potential applicants for catering jobs are warned that “this is hard work, not an easy way into the festival”.

Blondie drummer Clem Burke has confirmed the band will be playing this year’s Glastonbury Festival.Until now, the only act who had been announced for the festival was Elton John, who will be closing out proceedings on the Pyramid Stage on June 25 in what will be his last ever UK show.Although the festival has not yet confirmed their appearance, Burke has said the band will be coming to Worthy Farm this summer. In an interview with Foxy Radio, he noted that the band will be in the UK to open for Iggy Pop as part of his ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ concert in London’s Crystal Palace Park on July 1.He then went on to talk about Blondie’s other summer plans.

Sex Pistols, Blondie and Melvins have covered the Small Faces’ ‘Song Of A Baker’ – listen below.The rendition is by Cabbage ‘N Mash, a project featuring Melvins‘ Dale Crover and director Bob Hannam, who have together enlisted Blondie drummer Clem Burke, Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock and Melvins producer/engineer Toshi Kasai (on keyboards).As Consequence reports, Crover, who primarily plays drums with Melvins, is on guitar duties for the cover. Hannam, who directed the documentary The Colossus of Destiny – A Melvins Tale, takes lead vocals.The collaboration surfaced from Crover and Hannam’s love for the Small Faces, the ’60s British rock outfit later headed by Rod Stewart under the Faces reincarnation.‘Song Of A Baker’ featured on the Small Faces’ third album, ‘Ogdens’ Nut Gone Flake’, which was released in 1968.Crover said: “Bob and I, being big Small Faces fans, thought it would be fun to pay tribute to the band.

Blondie have shared a previously unheard demo version of ‘Go Through It’, formerly known as ‘I Love You Honey, Give Me A Beer’.The demo, which features on the band’s upcoming box set ‘Against the Odds: 1974 – 1982‘, hears frontperson Debbie Harry singing different lyrics to the version (‘Go Through It’) that was released on the band’s fifth album ‘Autoamerican’ (1980).‘Go Through It’ also features mariachi horns, unlike the demo, and as Rolling Stone notes, ‘I Love You Honey…’ was possibly written to be included on the soundtrack for the 1980 movie Roadie.‘Blondie: Against the Odds: 1974 – 1982’ arrives on August 26 via UMC and The Numero Group (pre-order here), and boasts 124 tracks – 36 of which were previously unreleased – alongside remasters of original analog tapes that were cut to vinyl at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios.The Super Deluxe Collectors’ Edition contains Blondie’s first six albums – ‘Blondie’ (1976), ‘Plastic Letters’ (1977), ‘Parallel Lines’ (1978), ‘Eat To The Beat’ (1979), ‘Autoamerican’ (1980) and ‘The Hunter’ (1982) – as well as bonus tracks including a previously unheard recording of ‘Moonlight Drive’.
