The departure of club icon Vincent Kompany already left Guardiola short on numbers in the centre of his back-line and they only got further depleted due to injuries to Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi.
It has forced the Blues boss to adapt defensive midfielders Fernandinho and Rodri to centre-backs and also give opportunities to teenage duo Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis.
