Paris is considering opening shops for Black Friday - here's why we should do the same

Black Friday is one of the most profitable retail days of the year – but reopening non-essential shops in France would be in defiance of President Macron’s month-long lockdown, which is only set to end on December 1st, one day ahead of England’s.

An American import introduced to Europe by Amazon back in 2010, Black Friday is the day when stores ranging from LK Bennett and Topshop to small jewellery brands and high-end fashion labels offer discounts of up to 80 percent.

British chains have followed the US tradition of making Black Friday – which takes place the day after the Thanksgiving holiday – the kick-off for the shopping season, with some stores seeing an 87 percent increase in customers both online and in person.
