Overnight motorway closures for M74 resurfacing project

The M74 northbound will be shut overnight from February 8 to 14 between junctions six and five, along with three of its on-slip roads at Hamilton and Motherwell.Closures will take place between 8pm and 6am each day to allow for the “essential” resurfacing project, with drivers being diverted along Palace Grounds Road and Bothwell Road to rejoin the motorway at the Raith interchange.Daytime lane and hard shoulder closures will also be in place during the week-long project, which will be completed by 6am next Friday, February 14.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

A statement outlining the project said: “Overnight closures of the northbound M74 between junctions five and six will be in operation between 8pm and 6am each night, as well as closures of the north and southbound on-slip at Hamilton and the northbound on-slip at Motherwell. “Northbound carriageway traffic will be directed to leave the M74 at junction 6 and follow the A723, A72, B7071 Bothwell Road and the Bellshill bypass to re-join the M74 northbound via the junction 5 on-slip.
