Motorists warned of weekend closures on busy Ayrshire road as resurfacing works to get underway

Ayrshire motorists are being warned of disruption and weekend closures on the A78 next month. Amey are carrying out "essential resurfacing" of the A78 southbound in Irvine between the Eglinton interchange and the Warrix Interchange from Saturday, March 1.

A series of road closures and contraflows will be in place for one week between Saturday, March 1 and Saturday, March 8.From 8pm on Saturday, March 1 to 6am on Monday, March 3, the southbound carriageway will be closed between the Eglinton and Warrix interchanges with one lane also closed on the northbound carriageway.After that, and until 8pm on Friday, March 7, a contraflow and temporarily reduced speed limit will be in place.Finally, overnight on Friday, March 7 until 6am on Saturday, March 8, the southbound carriageway will be closed with one lane also closed on the northbound carriageway.During the closures, traffic southbound will be diverted along the A737 and A71.

Traffic intending to use the Eglinton on-slip road will be diverted to continue onto the B7080, Long Drive and the A71. A spokesperson for Amey said: "Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the A78 southbound carriageway at Eglinton Interchange in Irvine from Saturday 1st March until Saturday 8th March 2025.

This work will take place under contraflow with additional overnight closures. "From 8pm on Saturday, March 1 until 6am on Monday, March 3: A total closure of the A78 southbound carriageway between Eglinton Interchange and Warrix Interchange, including the Eglinton on-slip road and Warrix off-slip road.
