Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.

In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on his Manchester United matchwinner Bruno Fernandes in a post-match chat with the Copenhagen captain Zeca which was caught on camera, and joked that he only gets "angry" when he brings him off.

Fernandes scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as United edged out the determined Danes 1-0 in extra-time of their Europa League quarter-final tie in Cologne on Monday evening.

The Portuguese fired home from the penalty spot after Anthony Martial went down in the penalty area in the first half of extra-time, with the spot-kick leaving the otherwise flawless Copenhagen goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson with no chance.
