Newcastle are poised with a £30m bid to land Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn. Toon boss Steve Bruce is set to raid his former club if Villa end up being relegated from the top flight.

It was Bruce who gave McGinn his big break in England when he signed him for the Midlands outfit for a bargain £2.5m from Hibs back in August 2018.

Villa were in the Championship and though Bruce was sacked three months later after a bad start, McGinn then played a starring role as they put in a grandstand finish to the season.

With the Scotland international in the engine room, Villa strung together 10 back-to-back wins to emerge from the chasing pack and clinch promotion through the play-offs.
