Low-income families will soon be able to apply for a new Scottish Government administered child benefit providing financial support to help with day-to-day living costs.
The latest figures from the Scottish Fiscal Commission estimate that 194,000 children aged under six in Scotland will be eligible for the new Scottish Child Payment which opens for applications next month.
This is an increase of around 24,000 eligible children (14 per cent) since the Scottish Government’s initial forecast in June 2019, accounting for the increased number of families now claiming Universal Credit - one of the main qualifying benefits - due to Covid-19.
