Cuisine Grandmère by Jenny Baker – a much loved but sadly unsung volume – is like reliving my 20s in a tiny kitchen and simultaneously travelling round Normandy and Brittany.
Baker divides the book into sections that have slightly poetic titles – she deals with ‘Fruits of Summer and Autumn’ where you’ll find recipes for fraises mam goz – strawberries in spiced red wine – and liqueur de blosses, a drink much like sloe gin but with apple brandy as the spirit base.
