Enovix has unveiled a new electric vehicle (EV) battery that can be charged to almost 100% capacity in under 10 minutes, breaking records for electric vehicle battery charging. Thanks to silicon anode technology, the battery can also be charged from 0% to 80% in as little as 5.2 minutes. If Enovix's battery became commonplace in electric cars, it could eradicate one of the major obstacles people face when buying one, namely the amount of time required to recharge the vehicle.

Harrold Rust, CEO of Enovix, said: "Fast charge capability can accelerate mass adoption of EVs [...] EV manufacturers are in pursuit of batteries that support longer range, while the public and private sectors work to increase EV driver access to fast chargers."We're proud to support these goals to help electrify the automotive industry and demonstrate our batteries are an exciting option to power long-range, fast-charging EVs."Electric vehicles have boomed in popularity ever since the price of fuel shot up to record highs earlier this year.According to the Indicata Market Watch report from May, second-hand electric cars are now selling as fast as petrol and diesel vehicles, with sales up 68 percent in April 2022.The government has today been criticised for ending the plug-in car grant scheme, in a move that critics say will deincentivise EV adoption.
