Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher was snubbed by Ferrari chiefs when he advised his former team to sign Sebastien Vettel ahead of Fernando Alonso back in 2009.
After Schumacher retired from F1 for the first time at the end of 2006, he stuck around as the Ferrari's F1 consultant but it has emerged that the team didn't always listen to him.
After an unexpected win in Monza, Schumacher was positive that Vettel was the ideal candidate to become the manufacturer's new No.1 driver.
But Alonso, who was already a double world champion, signed a three-year deal with the Italian team and was expected to dominate at the front of the grid over the forthcoming seasons.
