Much of England could be hit by 'heavy and disruptive' snow this weekend as the new year gets off to a chilly start. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice and snow covering the majority of England and Wales, which will be in force between 12pm on Saturday and 11.59pm on Sunday.
According to the warning, "some significant accumulations" of snow are possible across Wales, the Midlands and northern England.
Forecasters say there could be 5cm or more across the wider warning area, as much as 20cm to 30cm over higher ground and between 30cm and 40cm over parts of the Pennines.
Temperatures have already plummeted after a fairly mild Christmas and the cold snap is set to continue for the rest of the week.
