The UK experienced its coldest January night in the last 15 years on Thursday night, and more freezing temperatures are expected to roll in over the coming days.
Tonight, January 10, the Met Office has predicted that parts of the UK could reach a whopping -20C. In Altnaharra, a hamlet in Sutherland, the most northern region of the Highlands, overnight temperatures dropped to -14.5C overnight into Friday, the coldest night of the winter so far in the UK.
It was the coldest January overnight temperature recorded since 2010 - which saw temperatures dropped below minus 15C several times at locations across the UK, including -22.3C on January 8 in Altnaharra.
Weather warnings for ice were in place across most of Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as large parts of the east of England, until 10am on Friday.
