Met Office issues UK snow update as they warn things will 'turn much colder'

The Met Office has issued an update on forecast snow which is set to fall across large parts of the UK on Monday night. Some areas of the UK could see up to 20cm of snow as temperatures plummet with yellow weather warnings issued for parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, the midlands and northern England. .

Forecasters have warned that the worst-affected areas could see power cuts and disruption to road and public transport amid the severe weather. The weather warnings are in place from today until Tuesday morning. Warnings in Scotland remain in place until Wednesday morning.

The Met Office has now advised people that there is likely to be changes to the forecast throughout the week. Dan Suri, Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “An area of low pressure slides its way eastwards on Monday night. “The associated frontal system, marking the boundary between cold air in the north and milder conditions to the south, will bring disruptive snow to some areas between Monday evening and Tuesday morning. “This is likely to coincide with rush hour, leading to disruption to some transport routes across a central swathe of the UK on Tuesday morning.
