Met Office issues new weather warning for Greater Manchester with 'flooding expected'

A new weather warning has been issued for Greater Manchester with flooding expected in some parts of the North West of England.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain across the North West on Sunday (January 5). It comes as two amber alerts affecting Greater Manchester and much of Northern England warn of snow and ice starting from 6pm and 9pm tonight (January 4).

The new yellow alert issued this morning comes into effect at 6am on Sunday (January 5) and will be in place until 9pm. The Met Office has warned that heavy rain and thawing snow could lead to flooding in some places with travel disruption expect across the region.

Around 15 to 25 mm of rainfall is expected, combined with lying snow thawing may lead to some flooding, the Met Office says.
