Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (born Rachel Meghan Markle; August 4, 1981) is an American member of the British royal family and former actress.
Markle was raised in Los Angeles, California and has a mixed ethnic heritage. During her studies at Northwestern University, she began playing small roles in television series and films. From 2011 to 2017, she played Rachel Zane on the American legal drama Suits. The former actress "caused or permitted" confidant Jessica Mulroney to contact her former commercial adviser, who had given an interview to the Mail on Sunday, in a bid to ensure "a more favourable article was published", it is alleged.
The claim is made in a legal document submitted to the High Court earlier this year by the publisher of the Mail on Sunday and MailOnline.
The organisation is facing legal action – in a court case that starts today – launched by Meghan over an article that featured parts of her handwritten letter to her estranged father Thomas Markle.
