Measure out the flour and baking powder into a bowl and add in the butter until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs.Stir in the sugar, then add the egg into a separate measuring jug, beat until frothy and add in milk until the mixture is 125ml in total.Stir most of the egg and milk into the flour, keeping one tablespoon in the jug to glaze the scones before baking.
Mix to a soft dough.Put this dough onto a floured surface, and knead lightly before rolling out to a half-inch thickness. Cut into small circles - you should have enough dough to make 10 scones.Place the little circles onto the baking sheet - spaced out so they don't all cook into one big scone - and brush the tops with a little milk and send into the oven for 10 minutes.Remove from the baking sheet and leave to cool on a wire rack. You can also read about this recipe, and many more, in Mary Berry's Fast Cakes book, available on Amazon.Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. You'll receive daily updates
