A top personal finance expert is urging people who claim winter fuel payments to check their details. Martin Lewis said people must follow up now after almost 60,000 letters with incorrect information have been sent out.
Martin's website MoneySavingExpert says in some cases it could affect how much you're paid, reports Kent Live. Those aged 66 and above as of October 5 this year and who lived in the UK for at least one day between September 21-27 2020 are able to receive a one-off payment to help with their heating bills during the winter.
Depending on circumstances this could be between £100-£300 which is normally received automatically between November and December, with a letter that confirms the estimated payment and expected date.
