Manchester council has agreed to raise council tax by nearly 4pc while protecting frontline services - but city leaders have warned of ‘choppy waters ahead’.
The average household will see their annual bill go up by £65.67 to fund extra investment towards adult social services, supporting children in care and tackling homelessness.
Climate change, and the ‘climate emergency’ councillors declared last year- will also play a major part in local decision-making in the future, they said.
Attempts by the Liberal Democrat opposition to amend the budget were dismissed by the Labour majority, with one motion described as ‘cynical and ill-conceived’.
