One in three Greater Manchester hospital beds are already taken by coronavirus patients

And while Sir Richard Leese said that a ‘sterling’ effort to free up space in the NHS meant that 40pc of beds are still currently free, the number of cases is now rising ‘quite rapidly now’, meaning they would almost certainly also be filled in the next few weeks.
Speaking at the mayor’s weekly press conference on the pandemic, the Manchester council leader said as of yesterday 901 cases had been diagnosed across the region, although he said that would be 'an enormous underestimate' due to a lack of testing.
