A brave man says he is "lucky to be alive" after he jumped from his upstairs window to escape a house fire which almost destroyed everything his family own.

Jamie Jillo, from Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire, leapt from the window in just his jogging bottoms to escape the blaze on January 27.

Dazed by smoke inhalation and choking on corbon monoxide, Jamie landed on his side and believes he broke his back and ribs. The 31-year-old was taken to Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital without a top, shoes or socks and placed on oxygen for six hours, reports Grimsby Live.

He said: “It’s not what you expect to wake up to. “There was no time to react – I just jumped out of the window in what I had on.” Jamie was found by a neighbour
