Newton Road in Lowton just after 1.30pm this afternoon. The road was closed from East Lancs Road to Hesketh Meadow Lane for almost two hours following the collision.
A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance, an air ambulance, a doctor and an advanced paramedic were all sent to the scene. A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service confirmed a man in his 20s had been rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
In a statement, they said: “We were called today at 13:33 to an RTC on Newton Road involving a cyclist and car. “We sent a number of resources to scene including an RRV, land ambulance, air ambulance, doctor and advanced paramedic.
