The "vast majority" of Covid patients from Bolton in hospital with the Indian variant have not yet had a vaccine despite being eligible, Matt Hancock has revealed.
The health secretary this morning said that there are no known cases of a person who has received two doses of the jab dying from the new rapidly-spreading strain.
The variant could be up to 50 percent more transmissible than the Kent strain and has seen cases more than double in a week.
The government earlier this week announced new measures to tackle the spike in cases in Bolton, England's worst-affected area.
