The number of cases of the India variant of Covid-19 has doubled in less than a week, Matt Hancock has told MPs. Across the country, there are some 2323 confirmed cases of the new variant across the country - with 483 cases in Bolton and Blackburn with Darwin.
That's an increase of more than 1,000 since the last count on Thursday - when the UK figure was 1,313. And there are now 86 council areas with five or more confirmed cases of the India variant of the virus.
The Health Secretary urged people hesitant to get vaccinated for Covid-19 to look at Bolton - where the majority of people in hospital with the India variant are eligible to get the jab but haven't.
