Christian B has not provided investigators with an alibi, they have claimed. He was officially named as a suspect in the Madeleine McCann case by Portuguese prosecutors earlier this month.
But the convicted rapist hit back at accusations that he was involved in the tot's disappearance, telling a US TV documentary team that he was elsewhere when Madeleine went missing on the evening of May 3, 2007.
Hans Christian Wolters, the German prosecutor overseeing the investigation of Christian B says he’s “not aware” of any alibi and has accused the suspect of “playing games” with the authorities. He has been seen as a prime suspect by investigators in his native Germany since June 2020.
He’s currently being held in a German jail for other offences. The 45-year-old has been questioned more than once regarding the Madeleine case and has not provided police with any explanation of where he might have been on the night the British tot was snatched from a rented holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on the Algarve. But, speaking to the makers of a new documentary from US network AMC Crime – Madeleine McCann: Prime Suspect – Christian B has alleged that he was not in the area on the night in question.Exactly what that alibi is will remain unknown until the programme is aired on May 3 – the fifteenth anniversary of the Leicester-born three-year-old’s disappearance.
