Don't miss a thing by getting the day's biggest stories sent direct to your inbox Highways England closed part of the M56 about eight miles south of Manchester city centre on Monday night after a road accident resulted in damage to the barriers on the central reservation.
Following an accident on the eastbound side of the motorway close to Junction 3A for Wythenshawe, one lane was closed off to traffic while repairs were carried out on the crash barrier.
A spokesman for Highways England said: "One lane has been closed to allow us to repair a section of barrier which was damaged earlier this evening following a collision." It meant the closure of the fast lane while the emergency repairs were carried out.
