One of Scotland's busiest train stations is set to become the home for a brand new Marks and Spencer food shop.Images of new signage teasing the popular supermarket's prime location in the busy Queen Street train station were recently shared to social media.

It comes after original planning permission for signage advertising the new store was rejected as "clutter" by Glasgow council bosses in September last year. Now, new images shared to Twitter by Scotrail's Managing Director, Alex Hynes, show that plans for the new food hall are well and truly underway.Photographing the signage inside and outside of the busy station, Alex wrote: "Delighted to see @marksandspencer opening soon at Glasgow Queen Street railway station. "A great addition for our customers (and our colleagues!), with another high-street brand coming soon! @ScotRail @NetworkRailSCOT."While it has yet to be announced when the new M&S store will officially open to the public, the unit will be located right next to the Dundas Street exit and will occupy 131m squared retail space. It appears travellers are excited by the prospect of more retail spaces coming to Glasgow Queen Street which recently underwent a full revamp that was completed in 2021."Really good news, more retail needed at QS!", exclaimed one shopper."Oh that's very welcome!

Not all of Queen Street's trains are for short-distance commuters and the ongoing absence of catering facilities on trains makes a food outlet a much needed facility there", agreed a second. The Daily Record has reached out to Marks and Spencer for comment.
