A much loved annual event saw convoys of decorated taxis take hundreds of children to the seaside for free. For over 50-years, the annual event gave children with disabilities a fully paid day out at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The tradition started in 1949 after a cabbie was asked to show blind passengers around Manchester. Since then, taxi drivers had volunteered their time and cabs to take youngsters on a fantastic day out.

The trips were organised by the Manchester Taxi Drivers Organisation who fundraised to make sure the event was free to families every year.
