Seven in ten Brits have tried new international cuisines in the past 12 months
Over half of Brits would describe themselves as “foodies”, according to a study – with seven in ten having tried new international cuisines in the past 12 months that they had never tasted before.A poll of 2,000 adults revealed that popular cuisines such as Italian and Chinese remain top of the list when it comes to favourite international delicacies.But one in six food-lovers have tried up to six or more new cuisines over the past year – including South African (14%), Lebanese (15%), and Turkish (32%).One in five (19%) have given Korean food a go, while more than a quarter (28%) have sampled Japanese food for the first time – and nearly half (47%) have opted for a taste of the USA.One in ten have even tucked into a Nepalese dish, while 7% have enjoyed cuisine native to the Philippines.It also emerged that nearly half (45%) have been inclined to try new dishes after seeing interesting sauces, oils, marinades, and condiments in supermarkets.The ever-increasing variety of cuisine on take-away apps has also had a knock-on effect, with 45% revealing they’ve become more experimental when cooking at home as a result.The study, by speciality cooking brand U:ME, manufacturer of oils and “Spice Shots” for use when making international dishes at home, found Italian and Chinese are still the most popular cuisines.Ria Joyce, head of brand at U:ME, said: “Our taste in food has never been more eclectic.“A popular phrase right now is that the world is getting smaller, and that’s equally true when it comes to our taste in food.“You can find cuisine from all over the world in your local supermarkets – and even more specialist stuff in smaller shops, especially in bigger cities.”However, 33% wish supermarkets stocked even more foodstuffs,
