England WAGs to live on booze cruise ship at Qatar World Cup due to hotel's alcohol ban
England's WAGs will take a booze cruise during the World Cup finals in Qatar - as the footballers’ hotel is dry.Alcohol is barred at the five-star Souq Al Wakra beach resort where Gareth Southgate’s squad will stay during the tournament which starts in November. But their wives and girlfriends will nutmeg the Middle East state’s strict alcohol laws - by staying on a luxury cruise ship.Several will be moored up in capital Doha’s port to help ease an accommodation shortage during the month-long showpiece. As the vessels will be technically offshore Qatar’s, drink restrictions will not apply to them.Officials from world football's governing body Fifa reportedly offered players’ loved ones a range of accommodation for the finals - including onshore apartments and hotel suites. But the WAGs chose the ship as the best option.Sources said it offered a higher standard of accommodation, families can stay near each other and they will be free to toast England’s success with champagne. The partners of England stars Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling are among those who have reportedly chosen to stay on the ship. How far do you think England will go at the World Cup this year? Let us know in the comments section.Booze is not illegal in Qatar but drinking in public is a crime in the conservative majority-Muslim country.Alcohol is sold mainly in licensed hotel bars and restaurants.Rules around boozing are expected to be relaxed for visiting fans during the tournament with organisers trying to make alcohol easier to buy.But the England team’s hotel - built in 2015 especially for the World Cup - only serves non-alcoholic drinks.Want to be on the ball with all of the latest football news?Well then sign up for the brilliant Daily

Man City ready to sell Raheem Sterling in summer if contract stand-off is not resolved
Manchester City will reluctantly listen to offers for Raheem Sterling this summer – if they fail to agree a new deal with him by then. The in-form England winger, 27, is into the last 18 months of his current contract and talks over extending his stay remain firmly ‘on ice’, according to City insiders. The club have not abandoned hope on the matter but fear the longer the stalemate persists, the less likely he is to commit.Sterling, despite his recent superb run with the League leaders, remains concerned about commanding a regular starting place under Pep Guardiola.Discussions on a new contract began way back in September in 2020 but have been on pause since this time last year. That breakdown in negotiations coincided with Sterling’s City career hitting something of a rollercoaster. In the final weeks of last season, the former Liverpool man found himself out of favour and on the bench for the big games, including the Champions League final defeat to Chelsea. And even after a brilliant summer at the Euros for Gareth Southgate’s men, he was again dropped by Guardiola following September’s 0-0 home draw against Southampton. That sparked intense speculation Sterling, who cost a then-English record £49million in July 2015, could be on his way out as early as this January window. However, with his relentless ability to bounce back, Sterling has regained his place - and proved pivotal in City’s recent 12-match winning league blitz. What would be a good move for Raheem Sterling?
