MIA.MIA said “at least 50 people died in a discotheque in Kočani”, where “around 1,500 people attended a concert”.The concert started at midnight on Saturday (March 15) and was largely attended by young people, per The Guardian.Injured concert-goers were reportedly taken either to the local hospital in Kočani, which initially reported 90 admissions (per BBC News) or to Štip, about 20 miles south. Many are suffering severe burns and have since been transferred to hospitals in Skopje for further treatment.Footage shared on social media appears to show the band playing on stage when two flares go off, causing sparks to catch on the ceiling before rapidly spreading.

He recently returned to Australia after shooting his third film, “Housekeeping for Beginners” in Skopje, North Macedonia to attend the world premier of his second film “Of An Age.” That took him to the Melbourne International Film Festival and before traveling on to Western Australia for CinefestOz where the film won the festival’s only recurring award, and one of the industry’s richest, worth A$100,000 (or $65,000). The Macedonian-born, Melbourne-raised film maker broke onto the international stage earlier this year with his feature debut “You Won’t Be Alone”, a supernatural folk-horror tale about a girl who becomes a shape-shifter in a 19th century Macedonian village. The film won critical acclaim at Sundance and received a limited theatrical release in the U.S. through Focus Features, which also holds worldwide distribution rights.

K.J. Yossman Visual effects and animation company Cinesite has acquired a majority stake in Balkans-based visual effects studio FX3X. FX3X, which works on both feature film and episodic television projects, has offices in Skopje and Belgrade. It was founded by Milivoje Gjorgjevikj and Kristijan Danilovski in 1997 and is one of Eastern Europe’s largest VFX houses. It also boasts a fully-equipped motion capture stage at its Skopje location. Among the credits the studio has worked on are “Thor Love & Thunder” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” The studio is currently at work on projects including “Star Trek: Picard” (season 3), “Peter Pan and Wendy” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
