She revealed that she had had a home birth – something they decided on before the pandemic – due to fears over the ‘negative birth outcomes for black women in America’.

Jodie decided not to give birth in hospital as ‘the risk of pregnancy-related deaths is more than three times greater for black women than for white women, pointing, it seems to me, to systemic racism.’She added that the later restrictions on who could be present for the birth due to the pandemic cemented her decision to give birth at home as she could have people around her for support as she brought her baby into the world.

Jodie also opened up about how supportive Joshua, who she has been with since 2018, has been to her career, explaining: ‘It made me realise how lucky.
