Idrissa Akuna Elba OBE (born 6 September 1972) is an English actor, writer, producer, rapper, singer, songwriter and DJ. He is known for roles including Stringer Bell in the HBO series The Wire, DCI John Luther in the BBC One series Luther, and Nelson Mandela in the biographical film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013). He has been nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film, winning one, and was nominated five times for a Primetime Emmy Award.

Isha Sesay, Idris Elba Launch Sierra Leone Sexual Assault Survivors Fund (Exclusive)

Isha Sesay and Idris Elba have launched The Survivors Solidarity Fund to raise money for survivors of sexual assault in Sierra Leone.

The fund was created after the horrific June 17 rape and murder of 5 year oldKadijah Saccoh in the West African country. Her death sparked days of protests and galvanised groups campaigning against gender-based violence in Sierra Leone.

Sesay, an author and award-winning news anchor formerly at CNN will co-chair the fund with Golden Globe-winning actor Elba. The two are British-born but of Sierra Leonean descent and will be working with local activist Asmaa James as well as survivors, movement leaders and allies in the country.
