Idrissa Akuna Elba OBE (born 6 September 1972) is an English actor, writer, producer, rapper, singer, songwriter and DJ. He is known for roles including Stringer Bell in the HBO series The Wire, DCI John Luther in the BBC One series Luther, and Nelson Mandela in the biographical film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom (2013). He has been nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Miniseries or Television Film, winning one, and was nominated five times for a Primetime Emmy Award.

During a Zoom event for his new show The Long Run, the 47-year-old actor was asked about the future of the hit BBC crime drama, which he starred in alongside Ruth Wilson. “There isn’t a real formal plan for Luther at the moment,” Idris said according to Sky News. “I’ve made it very clear that I’d like to see Luther come back as a film,” Idris added. “And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther.” Luther first premiered in 2010 and has had five seasons so far, with the most recent season airing in January 2019.
