Ilkay Gundogan says Pep Guardiola was a key reason he committed his future to Manchester City last year - and the manager could inspire him to go into coaching after he retires.
Gundogan was Guardiola’s first signing at City when he signed on the same day as Nolito in June 2016. He extended his deal until 2023 last summer amid speculation he might have left the Etihad.
But the influential German says continuing to play under Guardiola was too tempting to resist. “Guardiola is one of the main reasons why I signed for Manchester City in 2016 and why I renewed my contract last year,” he told Marca. “Pep has so much charisma that you always try to give more than 100 percent, not only in games, but also in training.
