Great Wall of China, saw the Terracotta Warriors and visited the Tibetan Plateau. Christmas Day was spent on the train between Yangon and Mandalay in Myanmar.
We might have been older than the average gap year student, but we bumped along, sharing snacks with other passengers, sticking our heads out of the window to wave at local kids and take in the scenery.Every day I learnt something.
Previously a creature of habit, I became adept at handling whatever our adventure threw at me: jet lag; illness; long journeys; near misses; death- defying taxi rides.
