The grim discovery was made at a house in Toxteth, Liverpool, the Liverpool Echo reports. Merseyside Police said they were called to reports of 'suspicious circumstances' at the address on Monday lunchtime.
In a statement, the force told the Echo: "At around 12.10pm yesterday (Monday 9 August) we received a report of suspicious circumstances an unoccupied address on Wordsworth Street, Toxteth.
