Huge 18-metre robot becomes world's largest as it takes its first steps in Japan

robot has been caught on video taking its very first steps as part of a successful test before it opens as a one-of-its-kind tourist attraction in Japan.

The anime-inspired robot is based on the fictional RX-78-2 Gundam, a prototype weapon in the 1979 anime series Mobile Suit Gundam created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Nippon Sunrise.In the clip, shared by its makers Gundam Factory, the building-high robot flexes out a mechanised knee and takes its "first step".The video, filmed in the city of Yokohama where the robot was built, only shows the machine moving its right leg.It also currently lacks a head, but engineers said it will soon be ready to wow tourists at Yamashita Pier and show of its moves.
