Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Elizabeth was born in London, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and she was educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, with whom she has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

How to visit Queen's coffin to pay your respects – and rules you have to follow

Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 on September 8.Her funeral has been confirmed for Monday, September 19, with the UK being granted a new Bank Holiday for it by King Charles III.Over the next week, the King and Prime Minister Liz Truss are travelling across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as part of the national mourning period’s events.The Queen’s Lying-in-State will take place between Wednesday, September 14 and September 19, allowing the public to visit Her Majesty’s coffin.It is a way for the UK public to pay their respects in person ahead of the state funeral.From Wednesday evening, the public will be able to pay their respects to the Queen at The Palace of Westminster in London.Ahead of the event, the coffin will be moved from Buckingham Palace to The Palace of Westminster for the Lying-in-State.It will start at 5pm on Wednesday, September 14, and will be available to visit 24 hours a day until 6.30am on the day of the funeral on Monday, September 19.Those wanting to pay their respects have been warned that the queue will be very long.

You will need to accept long hours of standing in line, with very little opportunity to sit down as the queue will be continuously moving.The government has asked people to consider this before bringing children.There will be step-free and accessible options for people that need it though.Airport-style security is also being set up at the event, with only one small bag permitted into the venue.They can be no larger than 40cm X 30cm X 20cm.There will be a drop-off facility if you arrive with any larger bags or other personal items, though there is no guarantee it will have space when you arrive.Guidance on what you can bring to the events:There is also.
