Frankie Smith, HendonA I always try to start with things you might have in your kitchen already when it comes to stain removal, as time is often of the essence.
For light marks on walls, I find taking a thick slice of slightly stale white bread with the crusts removed and using it like an eraser, gently rubbing it against the wall, has a fairly reasonable success rate.
If I need something stronger, I like Flash Magic Eraser, around £3 for two from supermarkets. You use the sponges damp and work gently into the stain.
As with all such endeavours, try each method on an inconspicuous piece of wall first as not all finishes take kindly to vigorous cleaning.I read your piece about cleaning shoes (September 20).
