Added to this, a recent study from the LSE suggests women are more vulnerable to losing their jobs, as a greater number work in hospitality, leisure, tourism, retail and the arts – industries that continue to be badly hit by Covid restrictions.While it’s grim out there for everyone who loses their income, it’s particularly tough for the over-50s.

According to the Centre for Ageing Better, the over-50s are twice as likely to be out of work for a year or more than younger workers. ‘The impact can be similar to bereavement – shock, disbelief, anger and loss.
