Historic Glasgow building 'torched' as fire crews race to scene

Police have launched a probe following a 'deliberate' fire at a historic building in Glasgow. Six fire engines were called to the incident at Carlton Court around 11.30am and were still at the scene at 3.30pm on Saturday.Fire crews have since extinguished the blaze at the 19th century building as smoke could be seen rising above the city.Pictures taken from the scene showed the road cordoned off.

Police are fire crews could be seen in attendance.After the fire was extinguished gas workers could be seen wearing high-vis jackets and safety helmets.

No one was injured as a result of the blaze.Police Scotland say the fire is being treated as wilful. Investigations are ongoing.A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 11.27am on Saturday that a non-residential building was on fire at Carlton Street.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12pm on Saturday, January 27, we were made aware of a fire at a property on Carlton Place, Glasgow.

Emergency services attend, there were no reports of injuries and the fire was extinguished.“It is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
