Scots singer Tom Walker took to the stage of Glasgow’s oldest pub for a surprise gig to celebrate Burns Night. The chart-topper, who was born in the city, delighted fans with a tiny, intimate gig at the Scotia Bar to raise a toast to Scotland’s Bard on Thursday night.

There was a packed crowd at the venue, which has a capacity of 100, as the Leave A Light On hitmaker, 32, belted out some of his biggest hits despite battling a cold.It was Tom’s smallest gig in years and was in stark contrast to his next two Glasgow shows at the city’s 02 in April and the musician admitted that he was so keen to celebrate Burns with the acoustic set at the famous pub’s ‘Kinsfolk’ night, he even broke Dry January to take part.Tom said: “I've broken my dry January for this.

I'd waited until the 25th, but it didn't feel right not to celebrate Burn's Night in such an epic pub.”Tom’s set included his hits Leave A Light On, Number-10 and Just You and I.

In an interview with the Scottish Sun, he added: “I'm not going to lie. That was a little bit of a struggle. I just came from the tail end of a cold, and I didn't want to cancel, but you can't move Burn's Night.”Tom also had the audience in the palm of his hands as he got launched into a tune for the “No Scotland, No Party” chant which is familiar to Scots revellers across the country.Tom said: “That last song is my party song, which is reserved only for good nights with lots of pints.”Tom Walker plays Glasgow'sO2 Academy on April 30 (sold out) and May 1 - remaining tickets available here.
