A woman says her hero puppy saved her life after barking at 3am and alerting her to a plug socket fire tearing through her home.

Diane Thompson, 51, was frustrated to be stirred from her sleep by the frantic noise coming from Bella, her Jack Russell, last Saturday.

But she quickly realised something was wrong when the one-year-old wouldn't stop barking - and discovered a house full of smoke.

Diane said she uttered "one or two choice words" before dialling 999 and evacuating, reports Lincolnshire Live. Firefighters raced round and discovered that the blaze had been started by an overloaded plug socket in a cupboard below the master bedroom.
