Health bosses announce change in rules for visitors to some hospitals across Greater Manchester amid coronavirus outbreak

Health bosses are restricting hospital visitors in a bid to reduce the spread of coronavirus. Fewer people will be allowed to visit patients in hospitals across Greater Manchester to reduce footfall.

Stepping Hill and The Christie say only 'essential visitors' will be allowed on site from now on. It is understood other trusts in Greater Manchester are adopting the same approach.

A statement posted on The Christie's website said: "We are trying to reduce the footfall in the hospital by restricting both staff and patient visitors to only essential visitors. "This includes smaller numbers of patients’ friends and relatives. "We are not prohibiting visitors but we are asking patients to keep these to a minimum." A statement posted on Stockport
