Harry Maguire claims he feared he was being kidnapped when he fled from plain clothed police officers and was arrested in Greece.
Manchester United captain Maguire has lodged an official appeal after being handed a 21-month prison sentence, suspended for three years, after being found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and repeated attempts of bribery.
But he has now given his first interview since the incident and denied any wrongdoing. The England defender, dropped from Gareth Southgate's squad after the guilty verdict, is awaiting a retrial at a higher court with his convictions now declared void.
