Hafthor Bjornsson reflects on 501kg deadlift world record and says he could have lifted more

All eyes were on Hafthor Julius Bjornsson as he made history with a 501kg deadlift last weekend - but the Icelandic giant insists he could have gone even heavier.

With sport around the world at a standstill, the world watched in awe as Bjornsson lifted over half a tonne at his home gym in Iceland.

In doing so, he broke the 500kg benchmark set by British rival Eddie Hall in 2016, a lift which caused the Stoke-born strongman to briefly pass out and wake up in a pool of blood caused by the pressure.

The intense strain on Hall’s body both from the hours of training and unprecedented lift itself left him fearing for his life as his blood pressure spiked to over 200 in the hours that followed.
