The planet Dagon – originally known as Fomalhaut b – was one of the first planets orbiting a distant star to have been directly imaged by the Hubble Space telescope.
The discovery of Dagon was initially announced in 2008 and the large, Jupiter-sized planet’s existence was confirmed in 2012.
But now, bizarrely, Dagon seems to have disappeared. And astronomers now suspect that the “planet” may never have existed at all.
