NASA discovers 'most Earth-like' alien planet yet - and it could even support life

NASA has announced the discovery of a new Earth-like planet which is the same size and distance as Earth is from its host star.

The discovery suggests the planet could support water, like Earth can, and could be a new host for human life if we were able to reach it.

Scientists discovered the planet while taking a second look at old observations from the Kepler Space Telescope. It is not in our solar system and is therefore called an exoplanet.

Earth is not an exoplanet as it is gravitationally bound to the Sun in our Solar System. In a press release, NASA said: "Out of all the exoplanets found by Kepler, this distant world - located 300 light-years from Earth, is most similar to Earth in size and estimated temperature." Researchers have
